I can't seem to connect the Kinect v2 cameras through the USB 3.0 sockets which is a problem I fear once I get this OS on the laptops, but the PS3 cams work fine
So you finally got the Moves working with the dongle then? If so, glad to hear that. :)
It sounds like you're trying to get more than one Kinect 2 sensor plugged into the computer. That's not possible, you can only connect one Kinect 2 per computer. The other sensors need to be on separate computers on the network.
If you're having trouble getting just one Kinect 2 to connect, there can be a number of reasons, like the incorrect SDK installed or incompatible USB 3.0 chipset. Make sure you have the Kinect 2.0 SDK installed, and check the Kinect Configuration Verifier tool to be sure the USB chipset is compatible.
Note that in some cases the Verifier may not recognize the chipset but it may still be compatible. This is the case with my Windows 10 tablet computer, which uses an intel chipset for almost everything. Both the Kinect sensor and the built-in blue tooth (also Intel) has been compatible, even though Verifier doesn't recognize them. Verifier does show that they function properly though.
I should also mention that there are some computers that simply won't work well for Kinect 2. My daughter's fairly modern HP laptop, for example, does seem to be compatible with Kinect 2 but it's not fast enough to sustain a full framerate. Or my older 'rendering' computers on our network (maybe 5 or 6 years old)--I've tried various USB 3.0 cards in them and, while some were just barely compatible according to Verifier, it was never good enough to get Kinect 2 to run well with them.
Currently I'm able to use my old workstation (a 6-7 year old HP Pavilion) for one Kinect 2 and a Wacom Cintiq Companion 2 tablet computer for one Kinect 2 and three PS Move devices. In this situation, the tablet is actually faster than the workstation(!) even though I still use the workstation for tracking with Mocap Studio because the graphics card is better there.
Oh, that reminds me, the graphics card and driver can also affect compatibility so be sure to check that. I think this is the main reason Kinect 2 doesn't work well with my daughter's computer and possibly why it doesn't with my old 'render' boxes. (For the 'render' boxes, it's probably more likely that the motherboards are too old to support the necessary throughput.)
